THE ONE HUNDRED: ESSENTIAL WORKS FOR THE SYMPHONIC BASS TROMBONIST

My newest book is a comprehensive annotated orchestral excerpt book for bass trombone, The One Hundred: Essential Works for the Symphonic Bass Trombonist. This book joins two other books in The One Hundred series by Megumi Kanda (for tenor trombone) and Wesley Jacobs (for tuba). APPROACHING THE SERPENT: AN HISTORICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL OVERVIEW

My most recent video project is a DVD that features the serpent. In this video, I demonstrate over a dozen serpents and talk about their history and playing characteristics, give a serpent lesson, play duets with the viewer and discuss how to obtain a serpent, music and recordings. PDF files for all exercises, demonstration examples and duets are provided on the DVD. This first of its kind project is available in both NTSC and PAL DVD formats.


LE MONDE DU SERPENT

My most ambitious recording project to date, this new CD features my playing serpent and contrabass serpent in repertoire spanning four centuries, assisted by members of the Baltimore Symhony Orchestra, the Gloriæ Dei Cantores choir, Berlioz Historical Brass, Deborah DeWolf Emery, piano and Jennifer Ashe, soprano. With a detailed 24 page booklet, this disc, details of which can be found here on my website, brings this most unusual of instruments to life in a new way.


TWO OF A MIND

This project is a CD of solos and duets for tenor and bass trombone with British tenor trombonist Nick Hudson, accompanied by pianist David Chapman and the Williams Fairey Band, Thomas Wyss, conducting. CORNERSTONE

CORNERSTONE features performances of hymns and gospel songs accompanied by four pianists (Patricia Yeo, Stephen E. Gerber, Wes Ross and Beatrice Bush Bixler) along with readings by trombone and radio legend Bill Pearce. PROCLAMATION

My solo recording, PROCLAMATION, accompanied by Britain's Black Dyke Mills Band, was released to critical acclaim. In 2007 I took over production of the CD from Doyen Recordings and I updated the printed material but the audio content remains the same as the original issue. In this resource, I give detailed information about the recording, include complete program notes and reviews from publications from around the world, and provide an order form for those who wish to purchase the CD.


TAKE 1

My album, Take 1, features me as soloist in live performances given in concert from 1975-1997. The repertoire includes the Rimsky-Korsakov Trombone Concerto, Alan Hovhannes' Symphony No. 34, Op. 310 for Bass Trombone and Strings, Norman Bolter's Of Mountains for Bass Trombone and Orchestra and several other works. THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

From 1998 - 2008, I was Music Director of the New England Brass Band. The NEBB's third release is "The Light of the World", a CD which features powerful and moving sacred music for brass band. HONOUR AND GLORY

The NEBB's's second CD release is "Honour and Glory", a CD which features great music on noble British themes, mostly by British composers. MASTERING THE TROMBONE

The book, Mastering the Trombone was written by Edward Kleinhammer (Bass Trombonist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra 1940-1985) and me. In it, we discuss the important facets of trombone playing and include many exercises and musical examples to help players develop and hone their skills. In this resource, I give detailed information about the book as well as include reviews of the publication and an order form should you wish to purchase a copy.

THE EUGENE ADAM COLLECTION

This resource contains dozens of pages of free, downloadable PDF files of music written by Eugene Adam, former trombonist and tubist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1918-1947). A former first prize winner at the Paris Conservatory (1903), Adam's music is an important look into early 20th century trombone pedagogy. Also in this resource is a free, downloadable copy of Joannes Rochut's edition of the Bach Two Part Inventions. Historic photos of Boston Symphony brass players are also included in THE EUGENE ADAM COLLECTION.


KOPPRASCH ETUDES, OPUS 5, FOR BASS TROMBONE

Trombonist Benny Sluchin has made a new edition of the Kopprasch 60 Etudes, Opus 5, a group of etudes that is virtually unknown to trombonists, available as a FREE PDF download that is now available on my wesite. This is an important new group of Etudes that has become an important part of my personal practice routine and I have begun using it with my students as well.
